e2wm software package provides simple window manager for emacs, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install e2wm
e2wm is installed in your system.
Make ensure the e2wm package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep e2wm *
You will get with e2wm package name, version, architecture and description in a table
